How to turn a product photo into a video
When to animate a still versus generating a clip from text.
October 2, 2026
Short product video does not have to start from a camera roll. If you already love a still, animate it. If the idea is the motion itself — a pour, a cheese pull, a case opening — generate the clip from text. Credits differ a lot between those paths, so choose on purpose.
Animate a still when the product must match
Image-to-video keeps the silhouette you already approved. Put the still in as the start frame, describe a simple camera move (slow push in, gentle orbit, dust in the light), and keep duration short — five or six seconds is enough for a feed hook. Kling 3.0 Pro is our default for this job.
- Fitness reel from one still: campaign frame, then a 10-second push-in.
- Fragrance spot: key visual → motion → voiceover line.
- Lookbook still to walk: catalog pose → three steps toward camera.
Text-to-video when motion is the product
Pours, melts, and reveals often look better when the model invents the motion. Veo 3.1 can add sound with the picture for food sizzle. Kling handles vertical pours and product reveals. Expect a higher credit spend than a still — Starter includes enough for a few short clips from one shared balance.
Keep the move simple
One camera idea per clip. Competing moves make the product swim. Silent clips leave room for a separate voiceover step. Add audio only when the sound is the sell — a sizzle, a pour, a soft lid click.
FAQ
- Which models accept a first frame?
- Kling 3.0 Pro, Runway Gen-4.5, Seedance, and several others in the catalog. Open Video mode, add a start frame, and the model list shows what accepts it.
- Why is video more expensive than a still?
- Video models bill more provider cost per second. We price that into the shared credit balance and show the cost on Generate before you run.
- Can Free accounts make video?
- Video models are listed on every plan. A clip runs when the shared credit balance covers it. Free starts with a small monthly grant — add a paid plan when you need more.
