How to make product photos with AI
A practical sequence from brief to marketplace-ready still.
October 2, 2026
You do not need a studio to ship a packshot. Start with a clear product description, pick a model that matches the job, generate a few variants, then keep the one that would pass a marketplace review. This guide is the sequence we use inside VisoLab.
1. Name the job before the prompt
Marketplace listing, PDP hero, paid social, or email? The job decides aspect ratio, background, and how much lifestyle you allow. Amazon wants a white seamless. A landing page wants atmosphere and empty space for a headline.
- Marketplace: 1:1, white or off-white, soft shadow, full product in frame.
- Beauty or luxury KV: 4:5, material detail, sculpted light, muted palette.
- Launch teaser: wider crop, room for type, one bold subject.
2. Write a prompt that names the object
Lead with the product: material, color, shape, and surface. Then place it: background, light direction, camera height, and mood. Keep brand logos and readable packaging text out of the prompt unless you are using a text-strong model on purpose.
3. Pick the model for the job
Nano Banana 2 and Seedream 5.0 Lite are strong for clean catalog stills. FLUX.2 Max or Pro for luxury materials and campaign light. GPT Image 2 when the frame must include a readable headline. Check the credit cost on the Generate button before you run.
4. Generate a few, keep one
Run two or three variants. Prefer the frame where the silhouette is clear, the shadow is soft, and nothing floats. Then open Edit if you need a cleaner background or an upscale. When you need a lifestyle companion, send the packshot as a reference and place the same object in a scene.
- Try the Amazon listing packshot template for a white-background start.
- Try Marketplace listing pair for cover + lifestyle from one product.
- Try Packshot to lifestyle when you already have a catalog still.
FAQ
- Can I use these images commercially?
- Yes for work you generate on VisoLab under your plan, subject to the License page. Do not invent trademarks or celebrity likenesses in the prompt.
- Which plan do I need for product photos?
- Image models are available on every plan. Free includes a monthly plan-credit grant for drafts (unused plan credits expire at reset). Heavier models cost more credits per run — the button always shows the cost first.
- What if the product has a logo?
- Generate unbranded, then composite your real label in Edit, or use a text-capable model only when you need the type baked into the frame.
